A North Wales-based PR agency shared its invaluable industry experience with second year communication and media students at the University of Liverpool.

Outwrite PR’s managing director Anthony Bullick attended the university as a guest lecturer towards the end of 2022 to brief the class on a real-life industry client campaign.

As part of their group assignments, the class was tasked with creating a strategy for the campaign, which included outlining business objectives and how they would feed into them, as well as their chosen channels for executing their plans.

The students then presented to Anthony and communication and media lecturers, Dr Brendan Maartens and Dr Craig Haslop, six weeks later.

Anthony said: “It’s vital to collaborate with the next generation of PR superstars as it allows for creative and fresh ideas to join the conversation, and it was inspiring to see the students getting involved.

“A key aspect of the project was to ask them about the thought process behind their strategies, as it encourages them to have confidence in their ability to work on a common scenario in the industry.

“Starting university will have been all the more challenging after a lengthy period of online studying from home as a result of the pandemic. Regardless of those experiences, the students have clearly thrived working on their group assignments.”

One of the students, Becky Varney, said that she really enjoyed the project as it “felt like working on an actual PR campaign”.

She added: “The second year of the course is fantastic and I’m loving the modules, especially the PR-related ones.

“It was refreshing and motivating to have someone from industry come in, and to take our studies and execute them in this form gave us a taste of what the PR field is like.”

Brendan said: “We were thrilled to invite Anthony back to the university and for the time to be focused on a real PR campaign.

“The class thoroughly enjoyed applying their skills to create a strategy for the client and the outcomes were a fantastic demonstration of the level of talent on the course.”
