Sustainability-focused Outwrite PR was invited to share its expertise on effective net zero communications with other North Wales enterprises, at an event held by the region’s business council.

The Mold-based company’s managing director Anthony Bullick was joined at Net Zero North Wales by speakers from the UK Government’s department for energy, Transport for Wales, The Mersey Dee Alliance, and Cynnal Cymru.

Anthony shared knowledge on how to use storytelling to engage with key stakeholders, stressing the importance of tailoring messages specific to audiences and choosing the best communication channels.

He said: “More often than not, businesses are doing fantastic work to contribute to a greener future, but it’s knowing how to communicate it effectively, whether it’s with trade press or producing an ESG report.

“There is a focus on net zero and many brands and organisations will realise that they are already delivering many of the things which move them towards the goal, but it’s about highlighting those activities through PR activity.”

The agency director also spoke about the concept of greenwashing, which is the act of using misleading marketing activity to convince people an organisation is environmentally conscious.

Anthony continued: “Some brands can innocently fall into the trap of misinformation by not considering the bigger picture, and this is why education is important.

“Furthermore, a company is more likely to be respected by its target audience if it’s transparent about its sustainability journey – a marketing spin is certainly not worth the backlash.

“At Outwrite, we’re passionate about helping brands get ahead of the ESG curve, which is why we’ve created ebooks on how to create reports and the power of PR, both of which are free to download.”

Net Zero North Wales is held on a quarterly basis at Conwy Business Centre with the next event scheduled for September.

Anthony added: “The Net Zero North Wales events always provide a welcome opportunity to network with other organisations in the region.

“We’ve had the chance to exhibit before, which facilitated conversations with plenty of like-minded people, but we were thrilled to have a speaker slot this time around, to share our insight and passion for sustainability PR.

“Huge thank you to Ashley Rodgers, commercial director of the North Wales Business Council, for inviting me to speak about the key aspects of navigating the world of green communications.”
