Attendees at the North Wales Business Club’s net zero event have been equipped to share their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives thanks to Outwrite PR managing director.
Anthony Bullick delivered an informative presentation covering topics including greenwashing and social washing, the benefits of creating an ESG report, and the importance of communicating carbon reduction goals with staff and customers.
With brands coming under increasing scrutiny for failing to implement or clearly communicate their sustainability efforts, the chartered PR practitioner believes the event was a necessary reminder of why transparency is vital.
He said: “Research shows that 88 per cent of consumers are more loyal to a brand that supports social and environmental issues, while 90 per cent of employees who work at companies with a strong sense of purpose are more inspired and motivated.
“These stats scream that ESG activity forms a vital part of the decision-making process for your two most important stakeholders.
“That’s why nailing how to accurately share your sustainability efforts is crucial.”
The event, which was held at The Mulberry, Conwy Marina, also saw attendees receive practical guidance on how and where to raise awareness of sustainability milestones and the benefit of telling such stories.
Anthony added: “I like to give examples of what good and bad practice looks like when I’m presenting, so the audience has a clear understanding of possible next steps to take and what kinds of outcomes and projects are worth shouting about.
“I also covered the importance of internal communications to bring your employees on the journey with you as well as collating all content into an ESG report to show stakeholders how all the work fits into the business’ overarching plan.”
Speaking further about the event, Anthony added: “It was encouraging to see so many people come forward with strategic and tactical questions asking for clarification on terminology or giving feedback about how they learnt to present their net zero journey in an unambiguous way.
“I want to say a huge thank you to the North Wales Business Club for inviting me to speak and, having attended many of its previous events such as the St David’s Hospice Quiz, it was brilliant to give back by supporting and networking with companies in the region.”
