In the latest instalment of our occasional “Something you never knew about…” feature, we turn the spotlight on PR consultant Mike Youds.
Between 2007 and 2008, Mike spent six months working as a journalist in Dubai for a small publishing company.
He accepted the job having never visited the United Arab Emirates or wider Middle East before.
During his time in the city dubbed the ‘Las Vegas of the Middle East’, Mike took a helicopter ride amid some of the planet’s most dazzling skyscrapers, rode a camel and witnessed a Red Arrows display at the world famous Dubai Air Show.
He also experienced Ski Dubai and saw the likes of Kanye West, Madness and Bob Marley’s son Ziggy perform at an outdoor music festival.
He also visited the city’s numerous shopping malls and glitzy hotels.
Mike said: “It was pretty scary moving to a new country with its own traditions and cultures, without knowing the place or having any friends there.
“Living in such a dynamic city was an amazing experience, and I learned a lot.”
