Broadcast media specialist
Karen was born and brought up in Buckinghamshire, before moving to Manchester to study history and sociology. Here she began her career in radio, eventually getting a place on one of the BBC’s journalism training courses.
After working for BBC local radio stations in Birmingham, Dorset and Cumbria, Karen spent five years with BBC Manchester or GMR, as it was. Here she honed her journalist skills covering high profile news events like the Manchester IRA bombing.
In 1999, Karen joined Manchester’s Radio 4 team as a producer of the Sunday programme. Regularly responsible for the on-air content of the 45-minute live programme, Karen developed a specialist interest in religious and ethical news and current affairs. She also produced documentaries and programmes for Radio 3.
In 2004 Karen left the BBC and moved to North Wales to pursue a freelance career in radio and PR. Today, she continues to produce a number of programmes for the BBC including Beyond Belief on Radio 4, Belief with Joan Bakewell on Radio 3 and occasionally Sunday.
Alongside this she has developed her PR skills, and now works with a range of clients offering advice on broadcasting and making podcasts.
Outside of work, Karen is kept very busy by her three children. She enjoys running, cooking and socialising with friends.
