Outwrite’s Anthony Bullick was amongst a quartet of key speakers at the CBI’s webinar on sustainable communications.

The UK’s premier business organisation invited the PR agency’s managing director to discuss best practice on how to avoid greenwashing, embed transparency in a company, and share key messages with internal and external stakeholders.

Anthony was joined on the expert panel by Cecilia Park Aranha, project director at the Competition and Markets Authority, Airbus head of sustainability and environment UK, Alessandro Badino, and John Isherwood, co-founder of Obliquity Group.

“Sustainability is a hot topic, and it was wonderful to provide insight into communicating efforts into tackling the climate crisis,” said Anthony, one of only 500 chartered PR practitioners in the UK.

“The UK’s journey to net zero is well documented, so being able to share stories and update stakeholders on the work being carried out by your business is hugely important.”

The session was the latest in a series of events run by the CBI’s Sustainability Community, which was set up to help companies find practical solutions to decarbonise.

As part of the webinar there was a Q+A section that allowed the speakers to offer advice on:

  • What to consider around successfully communicating the sustainability message
  • What the different aspects of corporate communication to promote sustainability are, including stakeholder engagement, reporting, media, and marketing
  • The role of sustainability-orientated education in an organisation

Anthony added: “This series of events has been impressively attended and carrying out this one online helped make the valued thoughts and opinions even more accessible.

“Greenwashing and greenhushing are terms that are making companies worry, so to be able to try and put minds at rest was imperative.”
