Proof Reading
Are your apostrophes in the right places?Do you want someone to check your report for literals?
Have you spent so long perfecting your document that you’ve lost track of whether it makes sense?
Proofreading is the checking of a document after completion. The process is two-fold:
- To identify and correct grammatical and spelling mistakes
- To review the document for comprehension: does the argument flow? Is there enough evidence to support what you’re saying? Overall, does it make sense?
A skilled proofreader will read and check the words on the page rather than the words that you think are there because they were what you intended to write.
Outwrite Public Relations’ employees qualified as writers as part of their journalistic training. We all hold the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ Proficiency (NCTJ) Certificate, which is the industry standard qualification for journalists in the UK.
We have excellent writing and editing skills. Some of our team have formerly worked full-time as newspaper sub-editors.
We carry out editing and proofreading of other people’s copy, whether a report, letter or copy you’ve generated for your website or brochure.
We spot and correct errors in grammar and spelling. We also check through the document to identify whether the same can be said in fewer words.
Every single word is made to work: it must add to the content or it will be deleted.
We check for style and consistency. For example, do all your bullet points end with a full stop? Or do they all end without one? We work very quickly whilst maintaining accuracy. Proofreading services we’ve carried out include
- Proofing newsletter copy written by a client before he sent it for design and print
- Proofing a 300-word sales letter before mailing to prospects
- Proofing a lengthy tender bid
