Jones Bros boosts its training department
North Wales civil engineering company Jones Bros is boosting its training department team in preparation for offering a wider range of courses.
The Ruthin-based firm has recruited Ffion Roberts to its training centre.
Former Ruthin Ladies Rugby Team player Ffion has worked in administration in Jones Bros’ plant office for 16 years and will move from its head office to become training co-ordinator.
Managing director of Jones Bros Huw Jones said: “This spring will see an expansion in the kinds of courses we offer at our training centre, both for internal and external candidates.
“Ffion will be a key member of our training team, responsible for booking courses and dealing with queries.”
Jones Bros’ bespoke training centre opened two years ago, offering a variety of courses from operating plant machinery, to management-level courses.
There are four qualified trainers working at the centre – all of whom also have relevant experience of working on large and small-scale engineering projects.
Alongside its Ruthin training centre, Jones Bros has a site on the Horseshoe Pass, near Llangollen, where students can learn to operate heavy machinery and four wheel drive vehicles.
Ffion said: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining the training department as it starts to offer new courses and attract more external clients.
“We are looking to add an extra classroom to our centre to accommodate the extra courses and students. It will be a busy time, but I’m ready for the challenge!”
Ffion’s move to the training centre comes at a period of general expansion for Jones Bros.
The company has recently started work on two major contracts in North Wales, the £34m Porthmadog by-pass, in partnership with Balfour Beatty, and the £6m Tywyn Coastal Defence Scheme.
Across the UK, Jones Bros is currently working on about 20 contracts. They include two wind farm infrastructure schemes in Scotland and a two year framework contract to undertake waste management work in Yorkshire.
Jones Bros training department offers a range of accredited training courses, from health and safety to professional training programmes for plant operators, mechanics and civil engineers and civil engineering apprenticeships.
Courses are run on a regular basis, but Jones Bros can also offer training packages tailored to individual clients.
