Cantata tourism tour shows the magic in sharing knowledge
Denbighshire tourism initiative Cantata is guiding local businesses to see the marketing potential within their county.
A tour of potential Denbighshire attractions has helped local businesses share knowledge and see the county through new eyes.
The tour took in sites such as Ruthin Farmers’ Auction, Coed Llandegla Forest mountain biking centre, Llyn Brenig Reservoir, the County Records Office and Ffynnon Sarah Holy Well.
A total of 20 local business people took part in the tour, arranged by Cantata, a tourism initiative led by Denbighshire County Council and supported by European funding. Its aim is to help the county’s businesses increase sales and profits from tourism using a variety of means.
Cantata Projects Officer Peter McDermott said the sites were chosen by Bro Rhuthun Tourism and Marketing Group.
One of those offering his expertise was Mayor of Ruthin and owner of the town’s Manorhaus boutique hotel, Gavin Harris.
Gavin explained the secret treasure of the town’s archives, which are housed in its famous gaol – now a well-known tourist attraction in its own right.
Gavin said: “A lot of people visiting our town are here to find out about their family history. The County Records Office has an atmosphere and sense of history of its own. Some records are housed in the old cells and there’s a fascinating atrium – it’s a far more interesting site than a dusty old town hall or library.”
An on-line turn book is being created by Cantata as a record of the day. This will be available to businesses throughout Denbighshire to use as a marketing tool.
