Business leaders to discuss future of Welsh economy

Business leaders are being invited to a St David’s Day lunch to discuss ways of boosting economic growth in Wales.
The North Wales branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) is organising the event on March 1 at Bangor University’s Management Centre.
Entitled Leading Business into Economic Growth, it is open to non IoD members as well as members.
The Management Centre’s managing director, Phil Ryan will be one of two key guest speakers, along with Dr Barrie Kennard, director of Leadership and Management Wales, the centre for excellence for leadership and management skills funded by the Welsh Government and European Social Fund.
Dr Kennard is a lecturer at Cardiff Business School and recently co-authored a report on higher skills development in Wales.
Mr Ryan has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial sector, including strategic, business and retail roles for Lloyds Banking Group.
The event, which includes a two-course lunch, runs from noon to 2.45pm, at the management centre’s Brasserie 1884. Tickets are £15.
North Wales IoD opened its first ever hub at the management centre in late 2010.
The hub enables members to benefit from facilities to help them run their businesses efficiently, including access to a business lounge for meetings with clients or colleagues, free wi-fi, refreshments and free membership of the Bangor University Business Club.
They also benefit from discounted rates at the centre’s four-star accommodation, conference and venue hire, flexible office space and catering at the on-site café and restaurant.
Helen Watson, chairman of the IoD North Wales branch said: “This is our first major event at our new hub. On our national day, it’s fitting that we will be hearing how businesses of all sizes can grow to benefit themselves as well as the economy of Wales. We’re looking forward to meeting members and visitors alike.”
