Legal conference for North Wales’ business leaders
BUSINESS leaders from across North Wales can get up to speed with recent legislation at a free half-day conference in St Asaph. The ‘business toolkit’ conference is being hosted by the North Wales branch of the Institute of Directors (IoD) and ACCA Cymru Wales (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
Delegates will benefit from an update on the controversial Bribery Act, the tough anti-corruption law that came into force last year.
There will also be a review of recent pension and employment law and a ‘refresher’ session reminding company directors of their legal responsibilities and liabilities.
Helen Watson, chair of the IoD’s North Wales branch and head of employment law at Chester law firm Aaron & Partners, will be among the speakers.
She said: “This conference will be highly relevant for senior executives, from manager level upwards, who want to be up to date with the latest legal developments affecting businesses.
“Legislation affecting areas such as employment law is constantly evolving, and it is vital for employers to be fully aware of their responsibilities.”
Helen added: “We are excited to be arranging this joint event in association with ACCA. “This is the first in a series of events that will see the IoD in North Wales collaborating with professional bodies, as we look to freshen up our events offering for 2012.”
Alison Rennison, president of ACCA’s North Wales Network, said: “Our members need to keep up to date with employment law developments in order to run their own businesses and to advise clients or employers.
“The impact of the Bribery Act is already being seen and ACCA members need to fully understand its implications.
“We are delighted to be working with IoD to provide this event in North Wales and hope that we are able to arrange further joint events in future.”
The conference takes place at St Asaph’s Oriel House Hotel from 1pm – 5pm on Thursday, February 23. Admission is free and lunch will be provided. There will also be networking opportunities. Places are available on a first come, first served basis so early booking is advised.
The IoD is the UK’s longest standing organisation to serve and support business leaders, with more than 100 years of service in raising professional standards.
Members benefit from a range of services including free business advice, a full training programme, research facilities and networking events.
The IoD welcomes members at manager level upwards.
