Mum of seven to blog about her family's life for national glossy magazine

A busy mum of seven is set to lay her family life bare after winning a competition to write a blog for glossy women’s magazine, Candis.

A mum of seven whose family life is so action-packed her husband believes she should write a book, is doing the next best thing – she’s become the first ever blogger for national glossy women’s magazine, Candis.

Melanie Crabb, 43, is delighted to have been chosen from more than 300 applicants to write about family life for Candis, the sixth best selling women’s monthly in the UK.

“My life is so hectic, as a family we’re always on the go. Friends say coming into our home is like entering an episode of a sitcom, and my husband has said for a long time that I should write about our family’s antics, but I never thought I would get the chance to do this. It was a fantastic surprise to win,” says Melanie, who lives with her large brood in the village of Barton, North Yorkshire.

Melanie, who was born and raised in Orpington, Kent, has had an interesting life. When she was 17, she moved with her parents to Voorhees, New Jersey in America and stayed for several years. Later she lived in Florida, where one of her sons still resides. And just before the tragedy of 9/11, she worked as a re-insurance broker at the World Trade Centre, New York.

For her competition entry, Melanie wrote about a memorable event involving her family. Her anecdotes so entertained the judges they had no hesitation in selecting her to write the first ever Candis blog. She will update her blog every couple of days talking about latest events in the Crabb household.

Candis editor, Debbie Attewell, said: “In the last year there’s been a massive increase in our readers using the Candis website and, as family life is such a core part of the magazine, what better way to integrate the two than by having one of our own readers write about their real family life?

Melanie’s seven children are of mixed ages ranging from the eldest, Kelvin, 21, down to the youngest, Harrison, six.
