Gwyn Williams, Producer/Director

Gwyn Williams producer / director Gwyn Williams started work in the media in 1982, as a researcher, reporter, presenter and producer on all manner of BBC Wales radio programmes, including radio news.

In 1986, Gwyn started work for BBC television news in Cardiff as a director and worked on the Wales Today and Newyddion evening bulletins as well as election, budget and party political conference programmes.

He has also presented news and current affairs programmes for BBC local radio, interviewing major politicians and news figures.

Since leaving the BBC in 1988, Gwyn has run his own TV production company, making programmes for BBC Wales, ITV Wales and S4C. He has also worked for a major TV facilities company, giving him an unparalleled knowledge of the technical side of television. He continues to work for the BBC on election nights, and has covered every general and assembly election programme for the BBC since 1987. He also freelances for regional news programmes such as BBC Points West.

In 2005, his live outside broadcast of the International Snowdon Race was short listed for a Best Live outside broadcast BAFTA.

He won the Jules Verne International Film Festival Best Film award in 2006 for Icebound – the final journey of the Karlu – a co-production with Canada. The same film was short listed for a Canadian Gemini award.

And in 2007 he was executive producer of the documentary Illegal Nature, which was shortlisted for the prestigious Grierson Trust British Documentary Awards.

He is a regular contributor to news programmes as a newspaper reviewer and commentator on business affairs.
